12 FTCS members gathered on Monday, May 3 to hear 3 researchers in our field (also FTCS members) tell us about their ongoing projects:
Tytti Suojanen: A historical look at how the end user has been addressed and taken into account in Finnish technical communications
Laura Katajisto: A future look at how these 3 things might affect technical communications: social media, virtual worlds and ubiquitous (= everywhere, all the time) computing
Suvi Isohella:How technical communicators should be qualified for work in today's marketplace in Finland: what competences are needed, which ones should be focused on in technical communications education.
The presentations were followed by an animated session of questions and comments. After that we all enjoyed some quite fabulous filled crepes and salad and continued discussions - both professional-type ones and fun ones.
More information on the event will be in our next issue of the FCTS newsletter Näkymä.
The next local event is being planned for Helsinki on June 16, so mark it on your calendars! The subject will be developer documentation.
