Fall Seminar 2010: Documentation and Multimodality

The Finnish Technical Communications Society is organizing a two-day seminar in Tampere on the 4th and 5th of October 2010 in association with the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies at the University of Tampere. This year's theme is Documentation and Multimodality. The aim is to discuss ways in which different modes – text, image, sound and movement – are combined in various information products targeted at different user groups. The working languages of the seminar are Finnish and English. Note: The deadline for registration is 24 September 2010!

Keynote speakers and Program

The keynote speaker on Monday is Professor Guy Boy (Director of the Human-Centered Design Institute, Florida Institute of Technology,  https://services.fit.edu/profiles/profile.php?value=528). The title of his presentation is Documentation Contextualization. Tuesday’s keynote speaker is Professor Hanna Risku (Head of the Department for Knowledge and Communication Management,Danube University Krems, http://www.donau-uni.ac.at/en/universitaet/whois/00793/), whose presentation User Participation for Effective Communication: Cognitive Foundations and Practical Implementation will focus on the role of human cognitive capabilities, context, and interactive behavior in the information design process.

Other seminar presentations approach a wide variety of topics related to the main theme, including the production of interactive material as part of the technical communicator’s job description, the role of visualisation in documentation, and making localisation and globalisation more efficient. Pricing and Registration

Members of STVY and other TCeurope and Intecom member societies pay:

  • For both days: 200 €
  • For one day only: 120 €

Non-members pay:

  • For both days: 250 €
  • For one day only: 170 €

Students, unemployed and maternity/paternity leavers pay:

  • Flat rate for the whole seminar: 100 €

The registration fee covers the seminar folder, lunch on both days and coffee during the scheduled breaks, and the evening get-together on Monday. Presentation abstracts are available on the society website, and participants will receive the presentation materials on a memory stick at the seminar.
